In our inaugural post, we thought it would be best to introduce you to, well, Ratchery so you know what to expect from posts in this category.
When brothers Emmanuel and Phillip Hudson created the Ratchet Girl Anthem (SHE RACHEET!) who woulda thunk it would become a You Tube sensation garnering over 35 million views since January?
With lyrics like “OMG what do she have on, she ratchet , her lace front is all wrong, cause she ratchet ” one can’t help but wonder if they were checking out an episode of “ A Family Business” with the queen of the lacefront that needs to be snatched aka Brandy, when they wrote the song.

(Simmer down, we love that new Two Eleven album!) They have since started selling the song on ITunes, and now have an official video (in HD, no less!) and although it was just posted in April it already has 6 million views! It’s no wonder that the dinosaurs of rap have taken notice.
The self-proclaimed G.O.A.T. aka LL Cool J aka James Todd Smith has introduced all of the Ladies he Loves to a new ode to them entitled “Ratchet”. Set to a hypnotic upbeat track, the rapper knocking on the door of senior citizenship and grandfatherdom boasts: “She’s so ratchet, she’s so ratchet. She’s so bad we could throw cash at it. First I’m gonna smash it, then I’m gonna leave it, you ain’t gonna do me like you did him either, I’m gonna get mine.” And when the “ratchet” chick asks for gas money he replies: “It’s time to get rid of your ratchet ass.”
Uncle L is ironically or ignorantly (sometimes the same), touting his new album as “Authentic Hip Hop”. While we agree that the song DOES tell a story, I’m gonna need a new definition for hip-hop if this dumb shit is authentic. It’s something of a “Phenomenon” why a man who has won Grammy Awards, NAACP Image Awards, Soul Train Music Awards (including the Quincy Jones Award for outstanding career achievements in the field of entertainment), Billboard, and Source awards would stoop so low to sell out the “ladies” aka fans aka stans he claims to love. His Mama need to knock his ass out for doing some ratchet mess like this in the name of Hip Hop.
What do you think? Do you think it’s a lack of creativity on the part of the G.O.A.T. or do you agree with Elliott Wilson that old heads are simply trying too hard?
